Top Gun: A Triathlon Tradition in Tampa, Florida | Saturday August 3

Top Gun Triathlon in Fort De Soto on Saturday, August 3

2024 marks the 24th anniversary of one of Tampa Bay’s longest-standing triathlons. Multi-sport athletes of all calibers gather from around Florida to compete in this USAT sanctioned competition. Typically selling out well before race day, and limited to 500 participants, this is an anticipated community event.

As an avid cycling community member, Matt Scarbourough and Scarborough Bicycle Accident Law are proud sponsors of this year's competition which will take place at Fort De Soto Park on August 3rd, 2024, starting at 7am.

“I’ve lived and cycled in Tampa for more than 20 years, and every summer I hear fellow cyclists getting psyched for Top Gun. I’m thrilled to be an event sponsor this year and support triathletes in Florida.” - Matt Scarborough.

How you can participate:

Top Gun offers a range of ways for multisport athletes to get involved in the event. From beginners competing in their first triathlon to seasoned veterans, athletes can take their pick of race type and length to compete with a team or individually. There is the traditional sprint triathlon (0.25 mile swim, 10 mile bike, 3.1 mile run), the aqua-bike (0.25 mile swim, 10 mile bike), or duathlon (1.5 mile run, 10 mile bike, 3.1 mile run). There are also events reserved for active duty military, which aligns with the race’s namesake, and Top Gun, 1986 blockbuster movie.

Why Top Gun Triathlon?

For triathletes: this is definitely an activity you won’t want to miss, as Fort De Soto has over 7 miles of waterfront and 3 miles of white soft sand. It is a good place to spend the day competing or cheering on an athlete, with wheelchair accessible and dog-friendly locations along with historic fort tours. Ranked within the top five best cities for veterans to live, St. Petersburg, Florida is a gorgeous backdrop for this event.

With finisher prizes and other amenities, Top Gun triathlon is a fun filled day for the cycling and multisport community and Scarborough Bicycle Accident Law couldn’t be more content to be on the group and offer support.
